Elements – Earth
€2,500.00
Oil on panel – 50 x 35 cm – 2025
In ancient thought the element Earth was represented by the square or a simple cross, both of which incorporate the number four. This number refers to the four directions or four corners of the earth and the four material elements of Earth, Water, Air and Fire. In three dimensions this becomes the cube.
Earth is associated with the winter of the year, the southernly direction and the colour green. In ancient times this was represented by the goddess Ki, the goddess of the earth from whom, with the help of the other deities, all life emerged.
In this painting the soul is masked by matter, wrapped up and contained, immersed in solidity. It is the most material of all the elements and represent the final incarnation of the elements into form.
