Elements – Aether
€2,500.00
Oil on panel – 50 x 35 cm – 2025
Aether is sometimes referred to as the fifth element and the first born from chaos.
Aether represents spirit, the most immaterial of things. It is still no-thing, the divine essence behind all that is, that was and all that will be. It was allocated the direction of up and it was associated with the skies and the stars. The Void was to be found in the great below, the root of the tree of life and the four elements. The four directions of the material world were placed in the center, middle earth, and Aether in the heavens. Plato, continuing an older tradition, assigned this element to the dodecahedron whose twelve-fold pentagrams also symbolized the twelve zodiacal heavens.
In this painting I have included depictions of the divine essence such as the holy dove also familiar from art history through the works of the Flemish masters.
