This is a revisiting of an old favorite, called “The Well” from 2001.
The theme here is the unconscious. The well or source being a metaphor for the inspiration that rises from the unknown depths or even descends from the heavens to meet on our personal plane. It is a reminder that we are not all what we think we are. We are much more and extend to the above and below, sometimes to the infinite. In this short video below you can see how the painting develops over time, from a loose sketch to a finished work.
Watermarks and website mentions in the pictures here on this website are not visible on the original art. Paintings come framed (unless otherwise mentioned) and are shipped in a made to measure wooden box for secure and safe transport. During the creation of this sister painting, we made a short time lapse video of the process (click link to go to YouTube). It presented a good opportunity to show you how a "sister painting" is actually made and how it is both similar but always slightly different to the original. In this short video we can see how the painting develops over time, from a loose sketch to a finished work. You may notice that it also shows a slight change in technique compared to the painting first conceived in 2001. It is still an accurate copy of my first work, but has a more lively touché. As this version of The Well has now got it’s own particular atmosphere, I have given it it's own title; "The Source". I am very pleased with the final result, as it reflects some of how I have evolved as an artist over the years.

The quality of this print is astounding; I have wanted one of Jake's prints for a long time, it was better than I had hoped! Absolutely beautiful! She is more than beautiful and an inspiration to me. Incredible artwork! Really unique! Gives unique feeling in the room where we have it and its energy feels very alive. It projects something special to the whole house; like a divine protection. The intersection of true artful human expression and well-tended subconscious emanations - this is how I see Jake's art, and especially 'Gemini.' Exquisite!!! Het intrigerende The Lady Vanishes uit 2013 smaakte naar meer, waarop ik besloot mijn verzameling aan te vullen met Spiritus Sanctus, een totaal ander werk (kleiner en op op paneel) uit 2015. Gekocht via de website, dus een gokje hoe het zou uitpakken. Maar ik heb er geen spijt van. Het is een mooie uitbreiding, waar ik met veel plezier en bewondering van geniet.

I was delighted to come across Jake's art. The process of discovery and acquisition of the print have been wonderfully human and pleasant. Mark is an absolute delight in correspondence. I can't wait to have the print back from the framers' and hang it on my wall. I may just place a chair before it and sit with it when I feel in need of a meaningful conversation.
